【Shimokawanobori-Kagura】
Shimokawanobori is a village of 203 households that combines former Nagasaki Village and Uebaru Village. In ancient times, the village served as gateway to the center of Takachiho Town from Hinokage Town. A mythological place “Aisomegawa” is believed to be where god Ninigi encountered goddess Konohanasakuya.
Comprised of Kamikawanobori-kagura and Nakakawanobori-kagura, Shimokawanobori- kagura is alternatively called as “Kawanobori-kagura.” Along with Asakabe-kagura, it is a representitve kagura piece of the Mitai District. Night kagura is offered at Aisome Shrine on the first Saturday of December as a ujigami festival dedicated to the guardian god of the community. Due to the increase in newcomers, the community center has recently been turned into a Kagurayado where kagura is performed before deities, and the festival is organized and managed by the senior worshippers and new volunteers alike. There are many kagura performers in their 20s and 30s who started learning kagura in primary school, and are actively making efforts to preserve it.
