【Oshikata-Gokamura-Kagura】
Split between Gokamura Higashi Community Center District at the western foothold of the Kunimigaoka Hill and Gokamura Nishi Community Center District along the Prefectural Road 203 TsuchihaeTakachiho Route sprawling northwest Miyazaki, OshikataGokamura District is made up of small groups of households that have historically servedNakahata Shrine.Kunimigaoka, a 513-meter hill, is a scenic spot known for its blanket of clouds formed between fall and early winter. It is one of the best view points in Takachiho to have a bird’s eye view of the Takachiho Basin and the Aso-Sobo Mountain Range. Legend says that Takeiwatatsu-no-Mikoto paused here as he was passing through Takachihoen route to Aso in order to have a look of the Takachiho and Aso region. In ancient times, Kunimigaokawas called “Jizoubaru.” There is a small shrine dedicated to Jizoubaru at the satellite shrine of Nakahata Shrine, which is located south of the park, and also at the hilltop which used to accommodate a drum stand during the medieval period. There is also Konpiragu Shrine at the north park entrance, where the statue of Ninigi-no-Mikoto, the grandson of Amaterasu, stands, as he was mentioned in ancient records of Hyuga that remain to date.
A peripheral shrine of Aso Shrine, Nakahata Shrine worships Kamiyaimimi-no-Mikoto, the second son of Emperor Jinmu, and his son Takeiwatatsu-no-Mikoto. According to legend, the current location of the shrine is where Takeiwatsu-no-Mikoto temporarily stayed. The current hall was rebuilt in 1840 and is characteristic of the various carvings, including the ascending and descending dragons on both pillars supporting the front roof of the shrine. Due to the longstanding exchange with Kaminoshimogumi and Kurokuchi Villages on the other side of the gorge, Gokamura Kagura is considered as a school of Ueno-Tabaru Kagura. There are approximately 20 Kagura performers, and the three villages of the Gokamura Higashi and Nishi Community Centers take turns to perform night kagura. This year, the concert was given at the Gokamura Nishi Revitalization Center by the 20 families of Ouchi Village.
