The Miyazaki Prefectural Art Museum seeks to collect the following three categories of art.

• Works of artists who are either from Miyazaki Prefecture or who are in some way connected to the prefecture
• Appropriate works that reveal the development of art in Japan
• Outstanding art from abroad
